Network Solutions

Root-cause troubleshooting solutions that deliver total network visiblity

The World Has Changed, Have You?

The most important asset you have is your people. In this technologically-savvy world, ensuring they have everything they need to successfully perform their jobs can be daunting. Laptops, phones, servers, desktop and enterprise applications, 24/7 Internet access must all work seamlessly and in concert with one another. Today, if your network performance is not up to par, your people are less productive. The end result? Lost sales, operational inefficiencies, and people who simply cannot “get their jobs done.”

But there are hundreds of reasons for poor network performance and potentially, hundreds or even thousands of links, routers, and switches to check across any number of locations. In today’s economy where budgets are tight, do you have the resources to perform all this troubleshooting and resolve your problems quickly?

That’s where we come in. PathSolutions TotalView for Networks:

  • Up and running in less than 12 minutes.
  • Continuously monitors the performance of your entire network, 24/7, 365 days a year.
  • Quickly tells you where, when, and why network problems occur and even recommends how to fix them – in plain-English.

We solve all your performance problems—even the ones other solutions miss.

Business Benefits

Proactive Network Optimization Rather Than Constant Fire-Fighting

The health and performance of every device, router, and link in your network is constantly tracked and the Prescription Engine tells you when, where, and why problems occur as well how to resolve them. You are able to identify issues before they become problems, making your IT resources more productive and your network more efficient.

Fast Deployment, Less Setup Time

Most performance management tools takes days or weeks to deploy, but TotalView deploys in less than 12 minutes for virtually any size network. It automatically discovers your network, configures itself, and starts monitoring. Your IT team spends their time improving the network instead of endlessly trying to configure “elements” to collect or deploying probes throughout the network.

Makes the Most of Your Infrastructure Investment

With TotalView, most organizations find and resolve more problems on their network within the first few minutes of deployment than have been resolved in the previous year. Issues are identified before they become problems, network performance is always optimal, and your IT team is more productive—making the most out of your infrastructure investment.

Making the Most of Your PoE Investments

Power over Ethernet (PoE), which delivers power over LAN cabling to network devices, is fast becoming one of the most widely deployed technologies. While the benefits of PoE are substantial—in terms of cost savings, ease of deployment, improved energy efficiencies, and reliability—until now there has been no automated way to monitor and manage the power status and usage of PoE switches. Our latest release supports full PoE monitoring at both the device and port levels, enabling you to easily identify, manage, and monitor high power drawing devices as well as proactively troubleshoot power faults. To find out more about PoE, see Part I and Part II of our Power over Ethernet blog series.

An Extra Resource—Without the Overhead

Most companies and organizations are often tasked with doing more with less and budget constraints, in up or down economies, are always an issue. With TotalView, it’s as if you have an extra senior-level engineer working just for you as it automatically monitors all your switches and routers, finds and diagnoses problems, and recommends fixes.

More Benefits

Network Performance at a Glance

Network maps, dashboards, and drillable reports show performance of every router, link, and device on your network.

Planning for the Future

Use TotalView’s historical utilization graphs to schedule network downtime and plan for capacity expansion.

Proactive Problem Resolution

Take your users out of the notification loop. Instead of waiting for someone to log a problem, you are immediately notified when link or device failures or excessive utilization rates occur.

Real-Time Performance

See your real-time Internet utilization so that you can instantly address current congestion issues.

Monitor all your network hardware, no matter the manufacturer.

Daily Network Health Assessments

Daily emails report on network status to keep everyone informed about what’s happening.

Key Features

Rapid Auto-Configuration

Automatically scans network to find devices, then examines each device to learn the most efficient method to monitor it:

  • No SNMP or OID research evaluation required.
  • Completely transparent to network devices.

Easily add or remove individual devices or entire network segments.

Complete End-to-End Monitoring

Tracks errors on all network interfaces, including:

  • Over-utilized interfaces.
  • Broadcast storms.
  • Incorrect speed settings.
  • Duplex mismatches
  • Packet loss from cabling faults, CRC errors, FCS errors, runts, giants, etc.

Performance Reporting

A Daily Network Weather Report provides information on your network’s errors, performance, and administration. Based on the utilization rate you set, it will display the interfaces that are experiencing a higher utilization rate, including error rates and peak daily utilization. It will also display a number of “top tens,” including the top ten interfaces with the most errors, top ten interfaces with the highest daily percentage transmission, and the top ten interfaces with the highest daily received percentage.

Auto-Diagnosis—Problem Identification and Resolution

As TotalView automatically monitors all your switches and routers and identifies potential issues, its Prescription Engine diagnoses the problem and recommends a fix.

Fully Integrated Port Mapper

Quickly see how your network is connected and determine if the remote-connected device is behaving correctly. Instead of manually tracing cables through the network to determine what’s connected to an interface, TotalView’s port-mapping capability tells you exactly what’s connected to each interface.

Monitor Power Usage of PoE Capable Devices

Monitor the power usage of your PoE switches to make sure you are not getting close to limitations of the switch. Also monitor the power draw for each port on the switch so you can determine where high-power drawing devices are connected and quickly determine any power faults.

More Features

Dynamic Network Mapping

Shows performance of all critical WAN links on one pannable map interface.

Advanced Performance Monitoring

Automatically monitors utilization, packet rate, broadcast rate and error rate of every network link.

Performance Trending

Tracks and displays historical utilization and error rates for every network link. Exports data in CSV format for further analysis.

Availability Monitoring

Tracks and summarizes availability for each device on your network.

Outage Alerting

Sends alerts, via pager or email, for link failures, device failures, excessive utilization, and excessive errors rates.

Network Inventory

Automatically discovers all devices on the network and reports key configuration information like serial number and OS version.

Device Information

Identify device manufacturers by hovering over a MAC address. Reverse-DNS name lookups can be queried by clicking on provided IP addresses.

Syslog Server

Syslog messages can be received and logged and alerts generated based on the received message.

TFTP Server

Helps with network device configuration backups.

Support Contract Manager

Tracks information about support contracts and automatically alerts you when they are near expiration.

The PathSolutions deployment will usually reside in a shared-server or virtual-server environment.  If you want to install a dedicated server for the application, server guidelines are listed in the following table.

PathSolutions TotalView Service installs on a Windows server (or workstation acting as a server) and can be viewed from web browsers on the network.  The following requirements are for the server and client web browser.

Server Requirements. The system requirements may be low, depending on the size of your network.  Keep in mind that as your network grows, you may need to increase the base system requirements

Virtual Server Requirements. Running the solution on a virtual server is fully supported for deployments below 25,000 interfaces.  The server should be configured with a fixed (static) MAC address for licensing purposes.

Small to Medium Network Server Requirements

For networks with less than 25,000 total interfaces::
  • 1 Ghz Processor or faster
  • 5 GB of free disk space
  • 2 GB of RAM for the service (4 GB RAM for the server)
  • 100 Mbps Network Interface Card
  • Virtual Machine supported up to 25,000 interfaces. Physical hardware is recommended above 25,000 interfaces due to performance.
