The World is a Bigger Place Than You Realize

TotalView 8 Device Tab with new network device iconsOne thing always seems to ring true in the world of networking: Networks get larger over time.  This is due to the proliferation and ease of deployment of virtual machines as well as each individual user possessing multiple devices that all require connectivity (laptop, VoIP phone, cell phone, tablet).

As networks get larger, it usually means that monitoring and troubleshooting systems need to expand to support the additional infrastructure.

Some vendors sell “unlimited” collection nodes that cap out at 10,000 collected elements.  In a large enterprise, this may mean that 20 collection nodes need to be configured to support the infrastructure.  Each of these collection nodes would require care and feeding of the operating system and database, as well as the additional complexity of having data synchronized back with the centralized headquarters reporting engine.

If all of this could be simplified to have one deployment support the enterprise’s 200,000 node network, it would be a far simpler solution with less overhead.  Instead of 20 servers, there would be only one.  Instead of 20 databases to manage and maintain, there would be only one.

Since PathSolutions was founded by IT operations experts, we’re very aware of the problems that folks face when networks grow.

This is why we released TotalView 8 with the ability to support networks larger than 200,000 interfaces on a single deployment.  This means one server and one database can support the majority of large enterprises, and organizations that are larger than that have fewer servers to worry about than with other solutions.

In addition, we included a lot of other powerful features in TotalView 8 that will further improve network operations.  Visit our TotalView 8 release page for more information.
